Rip Sounds From Genesis Games and Playback With VOPM
August 16, 2009 on 6:49 am | In Software / VST Au, Yamaha |
In honor of Sega Genesis 20th anniversary week here is some info from Sound Shack Forums, a forum solely dedicated to FM Synthesis????? on how to rip voices from Sega Genesis games (.gym and vgm formats) and using them with VOPM FM VST synthesizer.
This info was found deep in a page I’d rather not bother linking to.
VOPM – an X68000 OPM chip emulator.
http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/VOPM/
and a program to rip instruments from Sega Genesis GYM music into VOPM format - http://soundshock.se/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=242
Shiru made a program to rip instrument patches from VGM format into VOPM format - http://shiru.untergrund.net/software.htm
More FM modules available here - http://park14.wakwak.com/~valsound//fm_lib.html - Actually originally from Shiru's TFM tracker...
MaliceX ripped some MDX timbres from games and put them in his site's downloads section - http://djtbmx.soulbreakers.com/
Hopefully this info gets you started into the FM ripping or at least some good FM sounds!!
Rare Yamaha Prototype Synth DX-2000???
April 6, 2009 on 1:48 am | In Articles, Music Industry News, Roland, Sampling, Yamaha |(artist’s rendition)
Could it be true? A Yamaha DX-2000 FM synthesizer that was never put into production available on Craigslist? Careful searching of the internet shows that no such “DX-2000″ model has ever existed. However a Yamaha DX-200 does exist. Could the poster have been confused? I say no! The description is too subtly detailed. This machine either exists or is a total joke. Evidence of this, the USB port, which the DX-200 does not have, the 200 note polyphony, and wav playback. The description actually resembles a roland D-50 on steroids. More than a groovebox, this prototype is unreleased competition to the Roland V-synth. Requests for pictures were not yet returned.

Hi, this is a prototype synth (DX-2000) from Yamaha I bought off of some one who worked there. It was a concept that was never actualized. The synth works identically to the FM8 software and has several effects and operators can call up pre recorded wav sounds which can be loaded in via USB. It features a sequencer and 200 notes polyphony. I have two and am selling one. The unit is one of a kind, you will not find this any where else. I will consider any trades or offers.
If you know anything about a Yamaha DX-2000 or have pictures of this synthesizer please let us know!!! It sounds like an amazing product, one which I want to own and test out. -Sammy
Alesis Fusion FM Presets Bank – “Alice FM” Released!
January 3, 2009 on 9:49 am | In Keyboard, New Gear, Reviews, Sample Pack Releases, Yamaha |This is the ultimate selection in FM sounds on the Alesis fusion. 29 must have FM presets range from Acid, Techno, Chip, to FX.
Alice FM presets honor the past of Yamaha style keyboards and others are remenesicient of sounds not since seen on the Sega Genesis game platform. Complex LFOs are used to generate envelope rythyms, like on those of expensive software packages costing $200 or more. Alice FM pushes the creative limits of the Alesis Fusion! Yamaha Dx1
December 9, 2006 on 5:19 pm | In Keyboard, Yamaha |Description: The largest FM synthesizer on the entire planet at over 100 pounds. Only 140 of this model were made, making it quite rare. You might see one on ebay or in classifieds rarely. Unlike the Yamaha DX7, it has its own red light up LED displays which tells you which parameters are being modified. Inclusion into the chip collection out of pure silly-ness. The only improvement I could think of on this was if they made it out of gold…or if it talked to you in the voice of K.I.T.T. Yamaha must have gotten their engineers together and said “hey lets make the most extravagantly heavy digital synthesizer ever”. Its still really lovable though. If you want these types signature digital of sounds nowadays, your better off getting a DX200, Native Instruments FM8, or just your computer’s generic VSTs. Its almost exactly the same because FM synthesis uses mathematical calculations instead of analog circuitry or analog modeling.
Year: 1985
Why: To make a redicoulously more expensive version of the Dx7.
Photos:
Super nice wood finish, and really nice keys.
Estimated Price: $4000ish U.S.
Sound Demos: I can’t find any claiming to be directly out of a DX1.

DX1 Plugin Board! Accepts Dx1 and Dx7 sounds.
Very Nice Photos showing its wood frame and inner circuits. Awesome hatch opening action…
