Ways to stop spam with Wordpress
May 29, 2008 on 9:22 pm | In Articles |I’ll be looking for ways to stop the spam on my site once and for all. Its getting insane. Especially “trackbacks.” This blog is run on Wordpress 2.0ish so i need to find some plugins. I do have kismet installed, but its just not good enough. If anyone has any suggestions I would listen!!
Thanks, and sorry for all the spam thats been in my comments. I don’t know how to stop it or have the time to delete it.
Hopefully I can find something.

Bad Behavior might be helpful.
I also configured (from the admin panel) comments to go into the moderation queue when they contain more than one link.

Always update your WP installation to the latest version. Bad Behavior works well for comment spam. Ronnie’s suggestion (5/30/08) is also a good way to stop a lot of it though it hinders folks who comment with more than one link (a compromise well worth the hassle). You might also require that folks register to post comments and configure WP to only allow unmoderated comments only for users that have had one approved comment already. Good luck!
